New look for Grubb Racing in upcoming Quick 32 Sportsman Series

Top Sportsman team to debut Pontiac GXP door-slammer

PINE RIVER, ONTARIO (March 19, 2012) – After competing in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts with their Cavalier-bodied Top Sportsman car for several years, Marvin and Darrin Grubb will debut a new race car this year.

“We’ve got a new chassis and body this season,” explained team owner Marvin Grubb. “Just about every piece on the car except the engine and transmission is new.”

With more than 1000 runs and strong consistency on the Cavalier, the Grubbs turned again to builder Chris Duncan for their new car, a Pontiac GXP based on an NHRA Pro Stock body.

“We wanted to get lighter,” said Grubb. “This new car has a state-of-the-art Roush carbon fiber body.

“We’re expecting to go faster,” he continued. “This car is more aerodynamic.”

PINE RIVER, ONTARIO (October 25, 2011) – Consistency and a solid effort allowed Grubb Racing to finish fourth in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts Championship Point Award Series Standings for 2011.

“This has been a great year. We are very happy,” said team driver Darrin Grubb, who pilots the team’s 2004 Chevy Cavalier in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series Top Sportsman division. “We were fortunate, as everything worked as advertised.”

The Cavalier received a new engine for 2011, a 706-cubic inch Par Racing engine, which ran well right from the start of the six-race season. The Chris Duncan Race Cars product also houses a Powerglide transmission courtesy of Hutch’s Transmissions, and a fuel system from Rupert’s Racing Products.

The team is headed up by Darrin’s brother Marvin Grubb. Mike Dennis is the team’s crew chief, and Barb Grubb is also an integral part of the team.

CAYUGA, ONTARIO (June 15, 2011) – A strong consistent race car gave Darrin Grubb and the Grubb Racing Team a victory in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts event at TMP’s Cayuga Dragway June 10-12.

“This has been an awesome day,” noted Grubb, driver of the Top Sportsman 2004 Chevy Cavalier, after the race. “Everything worked perfect.”

Grubb eliminated Top Dragster driver Michael Hinbest in the final of the event with a 7.22-second, 194.86 mph run over Hinbest’s 6.361-second, 212.46 mph effort. Working with a Sportsman-style, dial-in race format, Grubb, from Pine River, Ontario, got a big jump on Hinbest of Orangeville, Ontario and his Bos Top Dragster in the final, and the supercharged dragster of Hinbest could not catch the Cavalier at the top end.

PINE RIVER, ONTARIO (April 20, 2011) – After running a season with a new engine in their 2004 Chevy Cavalier Top Sportsman entry, Grubb Racing is only making some minor changes for the upcoming Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts of drag racing.

“We feel pretty good about the upcoming year,” said team driver Darrin Grubb. “We’re not doing too much new on the car, just a little freshening.”

The team placed seventh in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series Championship Point Award Series in 2010, highlighted with a Top Sportsman division win and a Series event win at Cayuga during the Canadian Nitro Nationals. The team always qualified for the field during the season, and also made some first, second, and semi round appearances. Grubb said it was important for the team to run consistent.
