PMRA and Quick 32 Sportsman Series venues set for 2011 season

Schedules announced in two popular drag racing series.

CAYUGA, ONTARIO (January 20, 2011) – The Pro Modified Racing Association, www.PMRA.ca, and the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts, www.Quick32.ca,is pleased to announce the 2011 racing schedule for both of these popular drag race series.

The PMRA will be entering its seventh year of competition, while the Quick 32 Sportsman Series will be starting its third season.

For 2011, the racing will consist of six events, and both the PMRA and Quick 32 Sportsman Series will compete together at all events.

The traditional season opener will take place on the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park May 20-22 for the Victoria Day Weekend.

Both series will return to TMP’s Cayuga for another three-day event June 10-12, and then partake in one of the sport’s biggest venues of the season, the Canadian Nitro Nationals July 1-3 at Cayuga.

McMillenTTK Transport Team steps up effort in Top Sportsman ranks in Quick 32 Sportsman Series

GODERICH, ONTARIO (January 18, 2011) – The 1963 Split-window Corvette of the TTK Transport Inc. team has received a new powerplant over the off-season, and team driver Darryl McMillen is hoping for a stronger showing in the 2011 Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts when he takes to the track.

“We’re running the same chassis,” noted McMillen, “but we’ve got a better and faster motor along with a new tranny.”

The Top Sportsman team placed 11th in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series Championship Point Award Series standings in 2010. The team qualified for each event, and took some eighth and quarter-round finals.

TORONTO, ONTARIO (January 18, 2011) – Drag racing will be a big component of the upcoming Canadian Motorsports Expo, and the Pro Modified Racing Association will be well-represented with the Roth Racing 1941 Willys Pro Mod.

The Willys will be part of the CME’s “Quarter Mile Corral” organized by prominent drag racing photographer and journalist Bruce Biegler and DragRace Canada.com. Other quarter-mile machines to be displayed include Mark Martino’s NHRA Pro Stock car, the KonRodz Funny Car of Spiro Kontos, and Gus Mantas’ NHRA Barracuda Super Stock.

rothBased in Kitchener, Ontario, the Roth Pro Modified, owned by Jim Roth and driven by son Jeff Roth, placed seventh in the 2010 Pro Modified Racing Association Championship Point Award Series presented by Magnum Auto Parts and Patio Passport, qualifying in the top five in several PMRA events, along with two semi-finals. In 2009 the team placed third in points, highlighted with an event victory at the Grand Bend Motorplex in September of that year.


Paolo Giust ready to return to Quick 32 Sportsman Series for 2011

OSGOODE, ONTARIO (January 12, 2011) – Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts competitor Paolo Giust is ready for the upcoming season in this popular drag race series.

“I’m ready to go,” he said recently. “And the car is ready. There won’t be many changes to the car as it was a new car last season.”

Giust, driving in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series Top Dragster class, did not attend all events in 2010 due to business commitments, but the driver of the 2009 Race Tech Race Cars and Components Top Dragster made his mark.

Right at the start of the season, he captured an event win during the first event in May held at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park. For other events, he always qualified in the top five, and took home a couple of first-round wins and was also a quarter-finalist during the Quick 32 Sportsman Series event at the IHRA Nitro Jam at the Grand Bend Motorplex in his first year of Quick 32 Sportsman Series racing.


Tom Orr ready to return to Quick 32 Sportsman Series with new engine for Stratus

SHAWVILLE, QUEBEC (January 7, 2011) – Veteran drag racer Tom Orr will not only return to the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts for 2011 with his Top Sportsman entry, he will be heading up a two-car team with his son Lance driving a Top Dragster.

“I’ve raced all over, and this is the best Series I’ve ever raced in,” said Orr, who drives a 2008 Dodge Stratus in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series Top Sportsman class. “We’re not changing the car a great deal for this year, except that we have a new motor to go into the car.”

Orr explained he damaged the engine in the Stratus during the IHRA Nitro Jam event at Epping, NH late last year, but was able to take the runner-up spot in the Top Sportsman class.
